buds in their voices shrill and stark, bid lightning to strike

ab naza.a kā aalam hai mujh par tum apnī mohabbat vāpas lo

jab kashtī Dūbne lagtī hai to bojh utārā karte haiñ

my end is near I'm on the brink, take back the love bestowed

whenever a ship's about to sink, it's prudent to unload

jaatī huī mayyat dekh ke bhī vallāh tum uTh ke aa na sake

do chaar qadam to dushman bhī taklīf gavārā karte haiñ

inspite of seeing my hearse go by, she did not condescend

at such times even foes comply, take trouble to attend

be-vajah na jaane kyuuñ zid hai un ko shab-e-furqat vāloñ se

vo raat baḌhā dene ke liye gesū ko sañvārā karte haiñ

poñchho na araq ruḳhsāroñ se rañgīnī-e-husn ko baḌhne do

sunte haiñ ki shabnam ke qatre phūloñ ko nikhārā karte haiñ
